On September 24 you have a rendezvous.
Readers of this blog may know that this appointment will take place in Paris. But where?
Paris is one of the world's great cities; over 2 million people call it home.
The river Seine divides Paris into two parts, known as the Left Bank and the Right Bank.
Paris is also divided into districts, numbered 1-20, that spiral around the center of the city. These districts are known as arrondissements and their numbers carry some real freight. The 4th is the original heart of Paris, with a medieval neighborhood known as Le Marais, or 'the swamp.' The down-at-heel 5th includes the artistic, intellectual Latin Quarter. The 16th oozes elegance and wealth.
Finally, Paris has many personalities. There is monumental Paris, marked by such famous sights as the Eiffel Tower, the Arch of Triumph, Notre Dame Cathedral. There is elegant Paris, which is the home of magnificent boulevards, famous couture houses, and hotels and restaurants known for their impeccable taste. And there is ancient Paris, where streets are narrow and buildings from the 14th century commonplace.
A rendezvous could take place in any of them. Where is The Rendezvous?
Find out next week.
